Pecaud, & C., c.1905. 17cm x 9cm De-bossed polychrome card featuring Jean Charcot’s endorsement for Lefèvre Utile, better known worldwide by the initials LU, is a manufacturer brand of French biscuits, emblematic of the city of Nantes. Strikingly beautiful composition and application of color with de-bossed images related to polar flora and fauna framing and image of the “Francais” in the ice. A high contrast black-and-white portrait of Charcot in the lower left adjoined to his endorsement. Bright gilt art nouveau influenced bordering defining each image. With no wear to extremities, no fading to image and no markings on the front or rear of card. In excellent condition — a lovely ephemera item related to Charcot and the Polar Regions. Rare.
