This first published announcement of the rescue mission under the command of Lieutenant William Colbeck, R.N.R. The article by Clements Markham provides a detailed presentation of the mission and objectives, its costs and outfitting, and 17 numbered instructions to the commander of the “Morning”. This is followed by “Letter to the Officer Commanding the National Antarctic Expedition (Capt. Robert Falcon Scott)”. This letter to Capt. Scott from Clements Markham, President of the Royal Geographic Society and William Huggins, President of the Royal Society, lists 13 numbered detailed instructions regarding the rescue mission.

After a brief introduction by the Clements Markham, this issue publishes the entire sequence of communications sent from Capt. Colbeck on March 24, 1904 from Port Ross, Auckland Island informing of the successful completion of the rescue mission. The letter provides a concise synopsis of the rescue mission written by Capt. Colbeck.

The final article published in the “Morning” series, this provides an interesting description of Scott’s well received presentation to the Royal Society of the National Antarctic Expedition with an audience that numbered “some seven thousand” in attendance. Included are the presentation statements by the Honorable Joseph Choate, American Ambassador, and lengthily statements of appreciation by both Capt. Scott and Capt. Colbeck.
